It’s A Wonderful Life
This is a film that resonates with my unwavering appreciation for James Stewart’s incredible talent. As a self-professed “sucker for James Stewart films,” I am captivated by his portrayal of George Bailey—a character who embodies vulnerability, charm, and sincerity. The film’s delightful blend of romance, fashion, and memorable musical numbers creates a captivating escape into a dreamlike realm, leaving me utterly charmed by every frame. With Audrey’s incomparable charm and talent lighting up the screen, “Funny Face” has become a cherished treasure in my collection of beloved films, an enduring tribute to the timeless elegance of both Audrey Hepburn and the golden age of Hollywood.

Rebecca
As a fervent admirer of classic cinema, I am enthralled by the film’s brooding mystery and masterful storytelling, adapted from Daphne du Maurier’s iconic novel. As a gay icon, Dorothy’s journey to find her true self resonated deeply with me, and I couldn’t help but dream of stepping “over the rainbow” for a fabulous pair of shoes! The endearing characters, iconic songs, and timeless messages of courage and self-discovery have made “The Wizard of Oz” a cherished and enduring part of my journey, inspiring me to embrace my authentic self with every click of those fabulous heels.

SPICE WORLD
“Spice World” holds an unshakable place as one of my all-time favorite films, and I proudly declare that I can recite every single line from start to finish. I treasured this movie so much that I saw it no less than five times in the theater and even wore out the VHS copy that “belonged to my sister.” Despite its cheesiness, the film holds a most special place in my heart, embodying cherished memories of joy and nostalgia.

Trick
“Trick” holds a unique and cherished place in my heart. The film’s endearing portrayal of two guys trying to find a place to hook up for a one-night stand takes an unexpected turn, leaving me pleasantly surprised by its heartwarming and genuine storyline. Amidst the laughs and heartfelt moments, the unforgettable musical number, “How do you like my C0**,” adds a delightful touch of humor and lightheartedness that makes this romantic comedy truly exceptional. “Trick” proves that love can be found in the most unexpected places, and its ability to be both endearing and entertaining makes it a special gem in the realm of LGBTQ+ cinema.

Escape From the Planet of the Apes
“Escape from the Planet of the Apes” earns its place as the best film in the series and a beloved entry on my all-time favorite films list, thanks in large part to the stellar performances of its talented actors. The way they bring life to the complex ape characters and navigate the intricacies of the film’s unique premise, with apes time-traveling to present-day Earth, is simply mesmerizing. Their portrayals add depth, emotion, and authenticity to the story, making it an unforgettable cinematic experience that continues to resonate with me.

“To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” earns its esteemed place as the best LGBTQ+ film to date, not only for its groundbreaking representation and celebration of drag culture but also for its stellar all-star cast. With cameo appearances from icons like RuPaul and Robin Williams, the film exudes a magical camaraderie that has left an everlasting impact on me, and I proudly declare that I can recite it verbatim, line for line, from start to finish.

Were the World Mine
Imagine that the potion from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” was real. Now imagine that a gay boy in high school playing the role of Puck uses the potion to turn all of the bullies in his town gay. Now imagine that it’s a musical. What else could you want from a film? This underrated indie gem is a must-see for anyone who embraces love’s transformative power and the beauty of being accepted for who we truly are.

Rope
“Rope” is a riveting and daring cinematic masterpiece that showcases Jimmy Stewart at his finest. As a sucker for his films, I was captivated by Stewart’s impeccable performance as he skillfully navigates the twisted tale of two young men attempting to get away with murder during a chilling dinner party. The film’s evident homoerotic tones add an intriguing layer of complexity, while the dark and suspenseful storyline keeps you on the edge of your seat. I mean, only the twisted mind of a homicidal twunk would come up with, “Let’s kill a guy and invite everyone we know over to dine over his corpse!” “Rope” stands as a testament to Jimmy Stewart’s unparalleled talent and cements his status as one of the greatest actors of his generation.

Drop Dead Gorgeous
“Drop Dead Gorgeous” is an uproarious mockumentary that holds a well-deserved place as one of the funniest movies of all time, and it’s no surprise that I quote it endlessly. The film boasts a stellar all-star leading female cast, including Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Kirstie Alley, Allison Janney, Ellen Barkin, Mindy Sterling, Amy Adams, and the late Brittany Murphy, each delivering hilarity and brilliance in their roles. As the movie hilariously unfolds in a small-town beauty pageant where fierce competition turns deadly, the witty lines and unforgettable moments keep you laughing non-stop. If you ever hear me cracking up with lines like “Mom’s dead you idiot!”, “The tard’s pants are totally off.”, “West Virginia!”, “That’s why we Lutherans use grape Kool-Aid for the blood of Christ.“, and “The Swan ate my baby,” you’ll know that “Drop Dead Gorgeous” is at the heart of it all, reminding me why this film remains an absolute comedy gem.

Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
I’m not picking just one, I love all three of the original films! Okay! Okay, if I HAD to pick it would be “The Empire Strikes Back.” But I love all three of the original trilogy so much and want to give this next slot on my list to all three of them. They are a perfect adventure and full of mystery (which the later prequel and sequel films mostly took away). After making him watch the entire saga, Taylor likes to tease me by saying, “So all of this could have been avoided if Yoda had just made better choices and stuck to his guns about not training Anakin.” Hush, Taylor! Just enjoy the amazing special effects and the thrilling adventure in a galaxy far, far away.

Carnage
“Carnage” stands as a compelling cinematic experience, showcasing a small yet stellar cast who masterfully portray parents entangled in a web of escalating chaos. Despite the controversy surrounding the director, I choose to appreciate the artistry in this film, which delves into the depths of human behavior. As the parents convene to discuss a violent bullying incident involving their children, the veneer of civility quickly unravels, revealing the raw and unsettling truth about human nature. With its sharp wit and dark humor, “Carnage” skillfully explores the thin line between adult decorum and childish violence.

Network
“Network” is a prophetic and thought-provoking film that eerily foreshadowed the troubling impact of 24/7 news broadcasts on our society. The iconic line, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!” resonates deeply, urging us to question the manipulation and polarization fueled by profit-driven networks. As we watch this film unfold in today’s world, its terrifying relevance reminds us of the pressing need for critical thinking and awareness to break free from the grip of sensationalism and reclaim our voices in the face of media manipulation.

Selena
“Selena” is a poignant and nostalgic tribute to the iconic Tejano singer who left an indelible mark on 90’s kids like me. Jennifer Lopez’s flawless portrayal of Selena captures the essence of her spirit, talent, and charisma, making it an unforgettable cinematic experience. As a fan, I can’t resist stopping to watch the film whenever I stumble upon it while flipping through channels at a hotel or Airbnb. The soundtrack, a testament to Selena’s musical brilliance, evokes bittersweet emotions, and I can’t help but wipe away a stray tear, pondering the extraordinary potential she could have achieved had she been given the chance to live her life fully. “Como la flor,” Selena’s enduring legacy, lives on through this heartfelt and beautifully crafted biopic that continues to touch hearts and celebrate the life of a remarkable artist gone too soon.

Bell, Book, and Candle
“Bell, Book, and Candle” is a delightful and enchanting film that cast a spell on me from the very first viewing. Discovering this gem, with my favorite actor Jimmy Stewart at the helm, bewitched and smitten by the beautiful witch, Kim Novak, was an absolute joy. The whimsical chemistry between the characters, with the hilarious and charming support of Elsa Lanchester and Jack Lemmon, weaved a spellbinding love affair that left me utterly captivated.

Mean Girls
“Mean Girls” holds a special place in the hearts of my generation, shaping our cultural references and leaving an indelible mark on millennial pop culture. Released just after my high school graduation, this film became an instant classic, and there’s not a millennial out there who doesn’t know the iconic line, “Stop trying to make fetch happen!” The genius of Tina Fey shines through in this witty and quotable masterpiece, making “Mean Girls” one of the defining films of my generation that continues to bring laughter and nostalgia with each rewatch.

The Day the Earth Stood Still
“The Day the Earth Stood Still” is a chilling and thought-provoking film that lays bare the darker aspects of human nature, leaving me with a heavy heart after each viewing. As I witness the true monstrosity of the human race portrayed in the film, I can’t help but hope for a better future when we eventually encounter alien life. This cautionary tale serves as a reminder of the importance of empathy, compassion, and unity, praying that humanity will learn from its mistakes and approach the unknown with wisdom and grace.

The “Back to the Future” Trilogy
The “Back to the Future” trilogy is an absolute time-traveling delight that refuses to be ranked, as each installment is as thrilling and enjoyable as the last. With groundbreaking special effects, captivating stories, and a perfect blend of humor and adventure, these films are timeless classics that have left an enduring mark on pop culture. The top-notch performances of the cast, led by Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, bring these beloved characters to life, making them unforgettable icons in cinematic history. As a fan of Robert Zemeckis, I can confidently say that these films stand as the pinnacle of his remarkable work.

Latter Days
“Latter Days” is a poignant and emotionally charged film that weaves a tale of heartbreak and heartwarming love with equal power. The story of a young Mormon missionary falling for his gay neighbor showcases the complexities of love and the harsh reality of rejection from family and church members. As I watch, I can’t help but be moved to tears, witnessing the struggles and pain faced by the characters. Yet, *SPOILER ALERT* the film also offers a glimmer of hope and joy, as their love triumphs in the end, bringing tears of happiness to my eyes during their heartwarming reunion.

A Walk to Remember
Speaking of films that make me cry… “A Walk to Remember” is a tender and heartrending film that holds a special place in my heart, particularly during the tumultuous years of my teenage angst. This poignant tale of love and loss never fails to bring on the waterworks, evoking a flood of emotions with every viewing. I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia, as I recall the significance it held during my formative years. Shane West’s character, Landon, was the first boy I ever loved, and he left an indelible impression, making “A Walk to Remember” an unforgettable and deeply cherished cinematic experience that continues to touch my soul.

Singin’ in the Rain
“Singin’ in the Rain” is simply a perfect movie in every sense. Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds deliver flawless performances that are nothing short of mesmerizing. The film’s exquisite dance sequences, beautiful singing, stunning costumes, and the hilarious story of Hollywood’s transition from silent films to “talkies” make it an absolute joy to watch.

Dirty Dancing
“Dirty Dancing” holds a special place in my heart as the first film I can vividly recall watching. I have fond early memories of my cousin Terin and me attempting to mimic the iconic dances from the film in our grandmother’s TV room. This timeless classic never fails to lift my spirits and put me in a great mood. With its unforgettable lines, captivating performances, and a fantastic soundtrack that still makes me want to dance, “Dirty Dancing” continues to be an enduring favorite that evokes cherished memories and brings joy with every viewing.
